Some of our churches are involved in refugee sponsorship, but The Anglican Church of Canada does not have a nationally coordinated program in place. Rather, these churches work through their local Dioceses which function as Sponsorship Agreement Holder Organizations. Our congregations come to sponsor families through their participation in the Private Sponsorship of Refugees program of the Canadian Government. You can learn more about the processes and requirements here.

Please understand that refugee sponsorship for resettlement in Canada is not considered an emergency response, and the process takes some time. If you have relatives or friends in Canada, they can help by connecting a sponsorship organization and helping to confirm your identity. If, on the other hand, you are in Canada with relatives or friends overseas, then you can help them by connecting with a sponsorship organization in the community where you live. However, without a direct connection to Canada, the chances of finding a sponsor are very limited. The Canadian Government invites a limited number of refugee resettlements each year, and there is a long waiting list. Further, the sponsor community must raise funds and organize support on a case by case basis. Your first step is to connect with a Sponsorship Agreement Holder Organization. They are listed, across the country, here. You will see that some of our Anglican Dioceses are on that list, and you should reach out to one in the area of the country where you have a personal connection. You will need to contact those Dioceses directly, as our office is not equipped to help with the refugee process.

Blessings in your journey.
